2019 Award Winners: Extra Mile Award

2019 Award Winners: Extra Mile Award

In October at our AGM and Annual Conference we announced our 2019 award winners. At LIVES, we’re incredibly lucky to have an outstanding volunteer base, made up of the most inspirational and generous people. We want to share with you a handful of those volunteers who have won awards this year.

Extra Mile Award: Martin Jess

Martin is a Level 4 Community First Responder for LIVES. Having joined LIVES nearly 6 years ago, Martin says it was an accident with a friend that inspired him to become a Community First Responder:

“I was out rock climbing with friends when one of them took a big fall and suffered serious injuries, I was closest to them and had no idea what to do in that situation, it was a horrible feeling not being able to help, LIVES has given me the knowledge and equipment to hopefully help people who are in need.”

Martin has progressed through LIVES to now be trained at Level 4 – meaning he has advanced skills and equipment to attend some of the most serious and traumatic medical emergencies.

Martin is extremely dedicated to the cause, which is why he won the Extra Mile Award. He goes out of his way to put together innovated and engaging training sessions for other responders, going through much effort to create realistic scenarios to help others with their learning.

So, what does Martin find most rewarding about being a responder for LIVES?

“Every time I have been able to make someone’s worst day ever just that little bit better.”

Congratulations Martin! Keep up the fantastic work.
