Previously a mechanic, Tom wanted to make a difference in his day job, so he became an Event Medic. Now, he’s taking his passion even further, dedicating his free time to help his community. “I used to fix cars, and now I want to fix humans!” – Tom, Birchwood CFR.
Tom has joined our incredible team of volunteers who provide lifesaving care in emergencies, ensuring patients get vital treatment before an ambulance arrives. With a strong desire to help others, Tom’s family has a history of medical care – his mum was a LIVES Community First Responder, and his grandad was a Trauma Consultant at Hull Royal Infirmary. Tom has witnessed first-hand the impact LIVES responders can have, and knew it was something he wanted to do.
To become a CFR, volunteers complete specialist training in essential lifesaving skills, including CPR, defibrillator use, and patient assessment. Equipped with the knowledge and confidence to respond to 999 emergencies, CFRs are ready to assist with everything from cardiac arrests to serious injuries.
Very soon, Tom will be fully trained and on-call, ready to support the Birchwood community as LIVES’ youngest Community First Responder at 18. We’re excited to welcome him to the team and look forward to seeing the impact he’ll make!
