Cindy’s Story

Cindy had been battling severe bladder issues for some time, enduring recurrent infections that were typically managed with antibiotics. However, one particularly stubborn infection did not respond to treatment, escalating into a life-threatening situation. One night, despite shivering uncontrollably, Cindy, feeling no significant pain, decided to go to bed, exhausted from her ongoing health struggles.

In the early hours of the morning, Cindy’s husband, Alan, awoke to find her side of the bed empty. Alarmed, he went to look for her and discovered Cindy lying on the kitchen floor, unresponsive, sweating, and shaking. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Alan immediately dialled 999. Living in a remote area with no streetlights, he turned on every light in the house to ensure the emergency responders could easily find their home.

Within minutes, a LIVES Community First Responders arrived, offering crucial reassurance to both Cindy and Alan during this terrifying time. They monitored Cindy’s vital signs, ensuring she remained stable while waiting for the ambulance. In situations like these, every minute counts, and our responder’s swift and attentive care made all the difference in preventing Cindy’s condition from worsening.

When the ambulance crew arrived, they quickly diagnosed Cindy with sepsis, a life-threatening condition, and rushed her to the hospital. Our responder stayed with Alan until the last moment, offering comfort and helping him plan his trip to the hospital.

After Cindy’s recovery and return home and recovery from sepsis, Alan encountered the responder at a local chip shop. Deeply grateful for the lifesaving care, Alan and Cindy now make it a point to donate to LIVES whenever they see a collection pot or attend a community event.

At our core, we’re neighbours helping neighbours. Active in your community.

In reality, the responder who attended to Cindy had taken it upon himself to visit the villages during his spare time, meticulously mapping out all the house names—many of which lacked numbers, only names. His goal was to ensure that if any team member was called to one of these houses, they would know precisely where to go.

Donate to LIVES today and ensure that we can continue to be there for people just like Cindy in times of emergency.
