ROLE OVERVIEW

A Community First Responder (CFR) is a person available to be dispatched by an ambulance control centre to attend medical emergencies and provide treatment and support within the scope of their training and experience as provided by the parent organisation in their local district.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Successfully complete Induction, M&H and appropriate responder educational pathway on an initial and ongoing basis.
  • There is the expectation that you will attend your local monthly district meeting and training session and any additional appropriate Continued Professional Development.
  • You will be required to maintain your skills and competences through ongoing education and responding activity and to revalidate on an annual basis.
  • As an active responder you will be required to deliver direct patient care and support in accordance with your scope of practice and current lives policy and procedures
  • To provide a concise verbal hand-over to the ambulance crew on their arrival. Where time and patient condition permits to start completing a Community First Responder incident report form at the scene.
  • Complete paperwork as appropriate e.g. Incident summary sheet, cardiac arrest data collection form
  • You will be required to participate in the district on call rota as managed by the district leadership team.
  • You will be required to maintain your LIVES issued equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in operational condition and report any defects to your district management team.
  • Any vehicle used for LIVES activities must meet all statutory requirements of current road traffic regulations (i.e. tax, MOT, insurance)
  • You will be required to adhere to the LIVES code of conduct and volunteer agreement at all times.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be aged over 18.
  • Hold a full driving license, have access to a vehicle and hold the appropriate Insurance.
  • Minimum of 16 hours a month
  • Complete mandatory training as indicated by the volunteer training pathway.
  • Complete LIVES mandatory vetting for new volunteers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Community First Responder will not knowingly be asked to attend unsafe or potentially violent incidents, or any other incidents which require specialist skills e.g. maternity cases.
  • Community First Responders will also reserve the right to decline any incident they wish.
  • LIVES is committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff, other workers and volunteers to share this commitment. As this volunteering role will be working with children and adults at risk, this role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service with barred lists check and request to consent to the DBS update service and other appropriate pre-employment checks.
