Responder stories
With the winter months closing in, the importance of protecting our community’s most vulnerable has never been more urgent. Responding to this need, Ryan, one of LIVES’ dedicated falls responders, has brought an invaluable new initiative to our service – adding warm packs to our emergency response vehicles from Wellbeing Lincs.
The initiative was set up by Wellbeing Hubs in Skegness and Spilsby, Ryan saw its potential to make a real difference on the front lines of emergency care. Now, with the support of NHS Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire County Council, LIVES responders will carry these warm packs to provide immediate comfort to patients experiencing falls or other medical emergencies during the coldest months.
The packs, which include items such as blankets, thermal socks, and hot water bottles, will be given to patients who are particularly vulnerable to the cold. Ryan has already seen how offering a bit of warmth can help patients feel more secure and comfortable while waiting for further care or transport.
Winter is a challenging time for those with underlying health conditions, especially the elderly. Cold weather can worsen symptoms and lead to serious complications, making even a short wait for help feel unbearable. The warm packs, now stocked in our vehicles, give us the chance to offer more than just medical support – they provide immediate comfort and peace of mind.
Ryan recognised that this initiative, set up by Wellbeing Hubs, could greatly enhance the care provided by LIVES falls service during winter. It’s a perfect example of how partnerships between local services and our responders can have a big impact. We’re proud to bring this added layer of care to the people of Lincolnshire.
